Colin Ian Christie BAPainting is a mystery in the true sense of the word, something like alchemy. Film and photography may have supplanted painting in the modern consciousness but in truth neither comes even close to beauty of painting. I work in oils, acrylics, watercolour, gouache, pen and ink and mixed media and in many different genre. I have had a lifelong fascination with what can be done with paint. Even when I was young and obsessed with photography I was always trying to achieve a painterly effect and the photographs I loved most of all were those that seemed like paintings.
My work could broadly be described as Romantic and Colourist . Sometimes it even borders on the mystic. I aim to be a representational abstract painter. I paint abstract shapes that come together to form a representation of reality. How much abstraction depends on the subject and what I feel will do justice to it.
