After leaving college in the early eighties Rowland became self employed as a commission artist. Throughout this time he experimented with many mediums but always returned to oil paint. He has also experimented with many styles and genre developing his technique from a very structured and detailed approach through to his most recent and confident manipulation of a more loose motion. This freedom of painting, he feels, is both the fascination and beauty of art for which the journeys are endless. Most recently his work has captured the snow trodden streets of Britain, grasping the essence of a structured cityscape and complimenting them with the harsh reality of nature. Figures within the plane add to the character of his work.
