Oksana Vucuzkja is one of Ukraine’s up and coming young artists. Born in the Crimean city of Simferopol, when it was part of the Soviet Union. The end of communism and independence freed Ukrainian artists from depending on the state for regonition and success. None the less, at University Oksana was able to benefit from Soviet era’s legacy of a formal technical art education that still provides young painters with a firm technical grounding from which to explore new subjects and techniques. Oksana can’t remember when she first picked up a paintbrush, only that it was a very early age and that she hardly put it down since. Her work combines her education, an inherent gift for composition and colour with bold and skilful use of oil paint to give her work a distinctive texture and depth, one that eludes other mediums and other artists. Still in her twenties, she has a long promising career ahead of her.
