Catala

B. 1929 Castellón de la Plana ~ Spain Admitted to the Royal Superior School of Fine Arts Saint Carlos in Valencia. He finalised his studies in Fine Arts obtaining several prizes "Roig". He was designated in a national competition as the official professor of drawing in the Centre of Education of Benicarló (Castellón). An essential characteristic of the still-life paintings of Rafael Català is in the refinement, in the composition of sumptuous contemplation, thus obtaining a theme of complicated simplicity. The conception of order inundates all his paintings, arrived at after an exhaustive study of the geometry. Any element is a reflection of a sphere or an ovoid, a cylinder or a cone, even cloths disarrayed in folds and creases maintain a central or radial scheme. The painter makes use of geometry, basic application for any artist, and through consideration translates it into intimate concepts of aesthetic transmission. Tallantyre is pleased to have represented Catala in the UK since 1982.
